Cannabis abuse causes abnormalities of the cannabinoid receptors in the brain

It really, really – I mean really – ain’t your daddy’s dope any more. In fact, it ain’t the weed of the 60s, 70s or 80s. It’s not even the smoke of the 90s.

And now, (Surprise! Surprise! Or maybe not so!?!?) comes news that that today’s more powerful THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol – the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana) doesn’t just attach to receptor sites in the brain; it also attaches to receptors through the body and involved in a wide range of digestive, cardiovascular, respiratory and other systems. In the brain, it influences mental states including pleasure, concentration, perception of time and memory, sensory perception, and coordination of movement.

While CB1 receptors involve functions in the Central Nervous System, CB2 involved the immune system and stem cells in the circulatory system.

The effects of cannabis and receptors in the brain“With this study, we were able to show for the first time that people who abuse cannabis have abnormalities of the cannabinoid receptors of the brain,” reported Jussi Hirvonen, MD, PhD, lead author of a collaborative study between the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute on Drug Abuse. The report was issued during the Society of Nuclear Medicine’s 58th Annual Meeting, June 4-8, 2011, San Antonio, Texas.

One item of good news emerging from the study is that this research shows that the decreased receptors in people who abuse cannabis return to normal when they stop smoking the drug. In addition, this new information may provide critical information for the development of new treatments for cannabis abuse.

The researchers recruited 30 chronic cannabis smokers and monitored them closely at an inpatient facility for approximately four weeks. Positron Emission Tomography (PET) provided information about physiological processes in the body. Subjects received injections of a radioligant, 18F-FMPEP-d2 – a combination of radioactive fluorine isotope and a neurotransmitter analog that binds with CB1 brain receptors.

Results of the study indicate that – when compared to healthy control subjects with limited exposure to cannabis during their lifetime – chronic smokers experienced a decrease of about 20 percent in the number of receptors. These changes were found to have a correlation with the number of years subjects had smoked. After a month of abstinence, 14 of the subjects had a second PET scan that indicated that there was a marked increase in receptor activity in those areas that had been decreased at the outset of the study – an indicator that, although chronic cannabis smoking causes downregulation of CB1 receptors, the damage is reversible with abstinence.

In Brain Training Today: February 5th, 2010

Just when I thought we had established a new record…. we are setting another new one today. Today we are helping nine of our clients benefit from the neuroplasticity of their brains through Brain Wave Optimization with Real Time Balancing (Brain Training). In the fourteen daily sessions we have available, nine people are coming in for training.

Today, the issues that we are dealing with the most seem to be helping our clients get to the neuropathway programming that originated in-utero during the last trimester of their mother’s pregnancy with them. Clearly, the neuropathway designs that the mother developed as her reality are passed through to the fetus to be a guide for the programming of the new persons mind. The programming becomes the new persons original programming. Accordingly, the mother’s past life becomes a real and valid part of the child’s life in the first neuropathways of the new brain. We are helping our clients re-wire this part of their brains to be the break in this past-life regression. The good news and bad news surrounding this is that it takes many hours (bad news) but we have been very successful in helping create a “new normal” from this exercise (good news). We also worked with helping anxiety, depression, addictions and addictive behaviors, sleep issues, focus issues, relationship issues, trust, love, and self-esteem.

It has been another great day at The Brain Training Centers of Florida.

We have been enjoying tremendous results lately! Our brain wave optimization system capitalizes on the neuroplasticity of the brain to improve neuro-functioning.

A client with fibromyalgia has reported that it is totally gone. She has stopped taking her pain medications! She also is enjoying a much better quality of life.

We have been working with several brain injury clients lately with great success. They all report that their ability to function cognitively has improved at least 100%. Their auditory-language skills have improved dramatically.  Their inter-personal and socializing abilities have also improved ten-fold.

We have also had tremendous success with several clients with anxiety and addiction issues.

Call us for more details.

Through the amazing systems of brain optimization with real time balancing of Brain State Technologies offered through Brain Training Centers of Florida and the neuroplasticity of the brain, we are helping five different people today with the following issues. They do not all have all the issues listed, this list of issues is all encompassing for these five individuals. One of the five is 13 years old. Their issues include, but are not limited to; anxiety, fear, sleep issues, tinnitus, depression(suffered for over thirty years), Tourettes Syndrome, stress, chronic fatigue, pain, alcohol and drug addiction, bi-polar disorder, and trauma relief.

Two of the five received their brain mappings today (which last about two hours) and will begin their first set of ten sessions (lasting from 1.5 to 2 hours each) during the coming weeks. The ten sessions will be performed twice per day over a five day period.
